enough (adv.)
“in or to a degree or quantity that satisfies or that is sufficient or necessary for satisfaction”
Some of us don’t have drawers or hangers. Clean clothes fall directly into a basket and see no further organization. Those with drawers just stuff things in anyway. While my husband and I do hang or fold our own items (you know, sometimes… after they air out on our bed for a few days)...
It’s okay.
No, it’s not my preference. It’s not my ideal. It’s not up to my standards, per se. But it’s good enough, and that’s what we need right now.
The Lazy Genius (btw, I’m crafting a post allll about how her principals weave through my creative life) reminds me to Name What Matters. Laundry doesn’t matter to me. Not that much.
I have many life priorities beyond crisply maintained trousers and underwear. I want us to work toward being patient and kind to ourselves and each other. I want us to notice our feelings and take ownership of our mistakes. I want us to celebrate creativity, eat healthy foods, and pursue peace.
We don’t fold our laundry because wrinkle-free clothes fall low on the list.
We do just enough, and it’s okay enough.
But there’s a necessity to laundry, a minimum requirement to hygienically clothe a family of (nearly) eight. Thus, I present: a redacted poem capturing my heart toward laundry:

Out from the door
Let others follow
But I with weary feet

Where are you letting certain things be “good enough” so you can give your best energy to what matters most? Is it laundry? Meal variety? Something else?
Warmly,
Rachael
